On April 27, 2017 ISC will roll out an update to the AirPennNet Guest wireless network which will replace the current network.  The new system will streamline and improve registration, refresh aging infrastructure, and reduce or eliminate the administrative burden for special events.  Clients will not need to do anything to prepare for these changes. These changes will primarily affect anyone who uses the guest network and is not intended for faculty, staff and student use.  The most significant change is that guests will be required to register an email account with no dependency on having a PennKey.

How to Connect:

  1.  Select the AirPennNet-Guest SSID
  2.  Open a browser
  3.  Review and accept the Acceptable Use Policy terms and conditions
  4.  Enter a valid email address
  5.  Click Submit

All Nursing domain machines will reboot after receiving critical security patches at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15th.

On Wednesday, March 15th, from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., ITS will perform routine monthly Patch Tuesday updates from Microsoft on our file servers, including the Research file server.  During this timeframe, you will experience interruptions to file access on network drives as the file servers and Research file server will require multiple reboots.  These patches are necessary to keep our servers secure and up to date.  Additionally, your desktop machine will reboot overnight as they do each month for Patch Tuesday.

Should you have any questions or experience any issues outside of the maintenance window, please contact the ITS Service Desk.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is the practice of hosting a desktop operating system within a virtual machine (VM) running on a centralized server. VDI is a variation on the client/server computing model, sometimes referred to as server-based computing.

ITS, in conjunction with our service partner, Information Systems & Computing (ISC), is pleased to announce our new Virtual desktop and application service. The new VMware Horizon client will replace our previous VDI software hosted at Nursing, known as Citrix XenApp.  Our main goal is to seamlessly replace Citrix with a solution that will continue to provide reliable access to applications from both your Nursing domain desktops and home devices, with access to data stored on our network shared drives.  Partnering with ISC will allow us to provide a much more robust solution than the current existing application hosted here at Fagin Hall.
