Research Affiliation Request Guidelines
Research Affiliations are the University’s solution to providing a mechanism to provision a PennKey account and access to certain School of Nursing systems for collaborators on specific School of Nursing research projects. It may be for a co-author, or to temporarily bridge access for a researcher transitioning to a different institution. A research affiliation does not provide a Zoom or PennBox license as they cost too much per individual. If the affiliate needs to host a meeting, Teams should be used. PennBox collaboration can be accomplished by inviting them to a team folder via their personal email address. A research affiliation can only be requested for a maximum of one year, with renewals permitted. Renewals cannot be automated - you must submit a new request via this form before a year has passed for uninterrupted access.
Requests should be in support of active research studies, and not as a general courtesy to an unaffiliated individual. The form includes multiple levels of review including PI, Center, and Department leadership. Please note that some requests may not be permitted.
Who should fill this form out?
This form should be completed by an individual representing the research study or studies sponsoring the request. This could be a center staff member, a research project manager, or a PI who can speak to the business justification and specific study/studies being worked on.
The individual for whom access is being requested should not fill out this form.

This form is only intended for requesting access and accounts for unaffiliated individuals collaborating on research projects within the School of Nursing.

To access and submit this form, the requester must authenticate using their PennKey credentials to the link at the bottom of this page.
A limited number of Principal Investigators (PIs) are currently listed in the form; if your PI is not listed, please submit a Service Desk ticket - servicedesk@nursing.upenn.edu
Depending on the research applications required, additional mandatory training for certain Penn systems may be necessary.
Please note that Penn incurs substantial costs for licenses when creating staff affiliations, and we ask that requesters be judicious when submitting affiliation requests.
Due to the substantial licensing costs, the School reserves the right to implement a fee for creating affiliations in the future; the research community will be notified if this change is implemented.
